SUMMARY:Monastic-led Retreat in Scotland - Peace is the Way
DESCRIPTION:  \n\n\n\n  \nLearning how to cultivate peace\, joy and non-fear in ourselves\, even in the heart of great difficulty\, we develop the clarity to know how to act with compassion\, solidity and resilience from a place of love. Knowing how to be fully present for our joy and pain\, we can heal and offer our presence to the world \n– Sister Tam Muoi \nThe wisdom of Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh teaches us to find a sense of peace within ourselves and serenity in the face of suffering. In a supportive community of like-minded people\, supported by six monastics led by Sister Tam Muoi from Plum Village\, together we will experience developing more kindness and compassion. \nLocation\nThe University of Stirling’s campus is set in 360 acres of its own extensive grounds with wooded walks and even its own loch. It is regularly described as one of the most beautiful campuses in the world. \nThe campus is just two miles from the centre of Stirling in central Scotland. Stirling is very accessible by train for all parts of the UK and there are excellent other public transport links from Glasgow and Edinburgh. There is a frequent shuttle-bus service from Stirling railway station. \nAccommodation\nAccommodation is all in single ensuite rooms. If you would like to be next to family and friends\, you can let us know. All rooms are charged at the same rate. There is no children’s programme\, however if you would like to register an under-18 on the retreat\, please contact us to discuss your requirements \nFive Mindfulness Trainings\nThere will be an opportunity to take the Five Mindfulness Trainings. You can indicate an interest in this when booking or during the retreat itself. \nCost\nThe cost is £500.00 per person. £400 of this covers full board\, the use of university facilities\, hire of equipment and travel costs for the monastics. The remaining £100 will be donated to Plum Village to support their work. \nDana\nThere will be an opportunity to offer additional dana (generosity\, giving) in support of Plum Village at the end of the retreat. \nSupported Places\nWe are asking for those who can afford it to offer additional funds towards supported places. These supported places are intended for people who are in financial difficulty. They are offered on a case-by-case basis according to availability. \nFurther Information\nPlease visit our TicketTailor site for further information plus how to book. \n  \nEmail: stirlingretreat@plumvillage.uk

SUMMARY:Mindful Morning - Self Compassion
DESCRIPTION:This month facilitated by Gideon Thomas \nOn the first Sunday of every month\, we offer a Morning of Mindfulness led by UK Lay Dharma Teachers\, Members of the Order of Interbeing\, Monastic Dharma Teachers and special guests. \nThe morning will typically include a guided meditation\, followed by a talk or panel. After a short break\, there will be an opportunity for Dharma sharing in groups. \n\n\nGideon Thomas (Joyful Healing Of The Source) is an active member of the White Clouds Sangha in Bristol\, as well as providing admin and organizational help for Mindful Mornings. Taking inspiration from a wide range of Buddhist and Daoist teachings\, he especially enjoys being supported and held by the sangha. His aspirations are to give back to the sangha that which it provides for him – love\, care and a space to just ‘be’. \nMain image by Maria Baltazzi on Unsplash

SUMMARY:Looking Deeply - 6 Week Follow On Course
DESCRIPTION:Looking Deeply is a follow on course from The Art of Zen (formerly “Be Calm Be Happy”) in which you can extend your practice in the Plum Village Zen tradition. \nWe do this most beneficially as a Sangha\, a group of people coming together to practise and support one another on the journey. \nWe go deeper into Thich Nhat Hanh’s teachings\, helping us to become more aware of our territory of body\, feelings\, mind and consciousness. We discover how to take mindfulness further into our daily lives. \n  \n\n\n\n  \nWhat to Expect\nSessions are online via Zoom. In each\, we meditate together\, consider the weekly theme\, and undertake a reflection exercise looking at its relevance to us\, with time for group discussion. \nThere will be recommended meditations from the Plum Village App to use during the week. You can install the Plum Village App here \nYou will get the most from this course if you regularly practise the meditations and reflect on the weekly theme between each session. The Plum Village App will be a valuable resource to support this. \nThemes for the sessions: \n\nArriving Home\nMindfulness of the Body\nMindfulness of Feelings\nMindfulness of the Mind\nImpermanence\nConnectedness\n\nSchedule\nThe course is at the same time every week. You will meet with the same group each time. \nThis is a live\, interactive course\, without any recorded sessions to download. \nEach session lasts two hours. \nUpcoming Dates\nThese can be found on our Looking Deeply TicketTailor page \nWho can attend?\nThis course is only suitable for those with some experience already. If looking for an introduction to Plum Village practices\, Zen or meditation\, we recommend the Be Calm Be Happy course instead. \nOur expectation is that you have either attended a Be Calm Be Happy course or that you have experience of practising in the Plum Village tradition with a Sangha. \nThe course is suitable for those of all faiths and none. Participants come from a wide range of backgrounds. \nTicket Pricing\nIn offering a range of ticket prices we aim to make the course available to all. \nPlease note\, bookings close 12 hours before a course starts. Courses can become fully booked\, so it is advisable to book early if you want to be sure of a place. \nFurther Information \nFurther information can be found on the course TicketTailor page \nFrequently Asked Questions\nWhat if I miss a class? \nIt is ideal if you can make all the classes as this way you will gain a sound foundation in mindfulness practice. If you have to miss a class and know ahead of time\, do let your course leader know. \nWhat further information will I receive? \nYou will receive “Joining Information” in a confirmation email once you have purchased your ticket. This will confirm the information on the class timings\, and how to access the online course. You will receive a further email directly from the Course Facilitator in the week before the course starts\, inviting you to a short pre-course zoom call. \nWhat is your cancellation policy? \nIf you cancel your booking at least 14 days before the start of the course we will refund your course fee. We are unable to offer refunds after that time. \nIf you have any questions please contact us via mindfulness-courses@plumvillage.uk

SUMMARY:Mindfulness for Neurodiversity - 6 Week Course
DESCRIPTION:About this event\nThis has been a life-changing experience \nThank you so much for assisting me to further my journey in such a lovely\, peaceful way \nI’ve experienced a very real shift in my ability to be present and enjoy simple things \nWhat I have gained from the course has given me real optimism for a calmer and happier future \n— Feedback from previous course participants\n \nMindfulness can be a challenging skill to learn for anyone\, but we know it brings a multitude of benefits. So how can people with alternative brains still access this practice? Sylvia has lived with ADHD and PTSD for much of her life. David has neither but has lived with Sylvia for a few decades. They both have deeply committed and long term mindfulness and meditation practices and have used these skills to help and support each other to navigate these challenges. \nThis is a specially adapted course based on Plum Village UK‘s traditional Art of Zen mindfulness course\, reconfigured to focus especially on the applications of mindfulness in support of neurodiversity issues such as ADHD and PTSD. Whilst mindfulness may help many people to live calmer\, happier lives\, this course shares some of the sensitive guidance needed to practice with mental health conditions and neurodivergency. \nIn the 6 consecutive sessions David and Sylvia will teach you how to meditate and ease painful thoughts and emotions; you will also be encouraged to use mindfulness practices to increase resilience and well-being in your daily life. \nIf you feel this type of course would support you\, then please join us. Together we will explore guided practices\, group discussions and practical exercises. There will be a medium group size\, for a light-hearted yet deep exploration of mindfulness and neurodiversity together\, in a friendly\, welcoming atmosphere. \nCourse content\nThe six sessions of the course explore the following themes: \n\nStopping and calming\nTurning to the positive\nLoving communication\nNourishing happiness\nInterdependence and community\nGuidelines for a happier life\n\nReported benefits\n\nIncreased enjoyment of life\nIncreased ability to be calm and relaxed\nIncreased control of emotions such as anger and anxiety\nImproved sleep quality\nFewer feelings of anxiety and low mood\n\nWho can attend?\nBeginners are welcome as well as those wishing to gain a fuller understanding of how mindfulness can support calm and happy living. Mindfulness is a practice originating in Buddhist psychology and supported by neuroscience; it may be practised by those of all faiths and none. \nThis course is suitable for partners\, parents and all who work with neurodivergency\, PTSD or who live with it themselves\, or for people who just want to learn and understand how these differences affect peoples lives. \nMany of our participants learn new ways to care for their wellbeing and are able to develop positive responses to challenging situations. This online mindfulness course is attended via the internet\, wherever you are. We suggest you find a quiet space where you will be undisturbed. \nPlease note\, you will be using a computer/laptop\, iPad or phone to access each session\, and will need a functioning camera and mic. \nWe recommend that everyone signing up for this course becomes a member of the Community of Interbeing (see our website at Join Us ). \nCommitment\nFor this course to be most effective\, we recommend that you commit to attending all six sessions and also do a minimum of 20 mins daily practice for five days each week. Creating a stable and strong practice of mindfulness is a habit that needs regular\, ideally daily\, practice. If you know ahead of time that you cannot make a session\, then please discuss with your Course Leader so that you can understand the content of the missed session. \nCourse schedule\nThe course is taught on consecutive Wednesday evenings 7-9 pm over six sessions. \nEach class is 2 hours long and the class timings are from 19:00 to 21:00 hrs UK time. \nWe run several courses throughout the year. \nThis is a live\, interactive course\, not recorded sessions to download. \nOnce you book onto the course you will be invited to a brief pre-course Zoom orientation\, to meet the Course Leader and iron out any potential difficulties in joining Zoom before the course itself starts. \nTicket pricing\nWe ask you to consider carefully what you can afford without depriving yourself or anyone else. Supported and Concession Tickets are intended only for those who are unwaged\, have a low household income and/or limited funds available. There are a limited number of tickets available in the 2 lower price brackets. \nIn offering a range of ticket prices we aim to make the course available to as many people as possible. \nThese options will be available once you click on Book Your Place. \nPlease note\, bookings close 12 hours before a course starts. \nRefund Policy\nIf you cancel your booking at least 14 days before the start of the course we will refund your course fee.\nIf you cancel your booking within 14 days of the start of the course we are unable to refund you\, but can transfer you to an alternative course if one is available.\nOnce the course has started no transfers will be possible. \nCourse leaders\n \n\nSylvia Clare and David Hughes \nSylvia and David between them have accrued over 78 yrs of personal mindfulness practice. They have both explored many forms of mindfulness and have been teaching it to groups and individuals for over twenty five years\, either as a team or individually. \nDavid remains an independent Buddhist but Sylvia has found the teaching of Thich Nhat Hanh worked best of all for her needs. Sylvia is also a writer and author of many books on personal\, emotional\, and spiritual development\, sometimes co-authored with David. \nSylvia’s dharma name is Peaceful Garden of the Heart\, which entirely suits her personality. David has not followed this path but recognises the profound wisdom in Thich Nhat Hanh’s teaching. \nSylvia has lived a life of coping with ADHD and PTSD both personally and with her sons. David has lived a life of coping with Sylvia and her sons. \nMindfulness is the basis for our entire relationship as a couple and has enabled us to cope with many moments of deep grief and adversity as well as great joy. Between us we have a rich resource of tips and support options for people with PTSD and neurodiversity issues and how mindfulness can support living well with them\, both emotionally and managing symptoms. \nWe are both very committed to supporting this community of mindful practitioners. Titles specifically related to these courses are: \n1. the book most closely associated to the course\, Living With and Loving ADHD and Neurodiversity: Amazon.co.uk: Clare\, Sylvia\, Hughes\, David: 9798700623629: Books \n2. a personal memoir of growing up with ADHD and PTSD and how she healed through it\, including the role Plum Village played No Visible Injuries: Amazon.co.uk: Clare\, Sylvia: 9798628385388: Books \n3. and a dictionary approach memoir to learning to manage emotions\, much of it using mindful insights Travelling the Alphabet Emotionally: A journey through life’s ups and downs: Amazon.co.uk: Clare\, Sylvia: 9781731266743: Books \nFrequently Asked Questions\n What if I miss a class? \nIt is ideal if you can make all the classes as this way you will gain a sound foundation in mindfulness practice.
SUMMARY:Earth Care Sangha - Appreciation of our Earth's beauty as support
DESCRIPTION:This month\, please join Maggie\, Andrea and sangha friends for an evening that will focus on gratitude as food to give us energy and enable us in whatever Earth caring we are involved in or may want to start. \nEarth Care Sangha – A Sangha For Our Times\nWe have to wake up together — Thich Nhat Hanh \nMany of us are aware that we live in times of great peril for life on Earth but also of great promise for change. It is easy to be overwhelmed by feelings of helplessness\, despair and sorrow for what is being done to the Earth. But by practising together we can make a positive difference\, and strengthen our resilience and joy. In response to our individual and collective need to do something\, Earth Care Sangha is offered. \nIn small Dharma sharing groups we can explore our feelings and speak openly in the company of others who share our concerns\, safe in the knowledge that we do this without judgement or conflict. We hope that by sharing freely in this way\, we can help each other find concrete ways to transform and heal\, cultivate joy\, and strengthen our understanding of interbeing with Mother Earth. \nGrounded in the Plum Village tradition\, and with close links to the Earth Care Steering Group\, Earth Care Sangha is truly a sangha for these times. We invite you to join us\, enjoy the practices\, and help shape its future. Let’s wake up together! \nPlease email earthcare@plumvillage.uk with any feedback\, questions\, suggestions or offers of help. \nEarth Care Resources \n  \nPhoto by NASA on Unsplash \n  \n\n\n\nGuided Meditation: The Four Elements | Sister Chan Duc

SUMMARY:Rainbow Sangha
DESCRIPTION:Who we are\nAs people identifying under this umbrella\, we may face challenges and discrimination within ourselves and from the outside. Our wish is to support each other and to acknowledge our own uniqueness and connectedness. \nWe co-create a mindful space where we can equally share our pain and our joy\, where we don’t need to assess risks of showing who we truly are or edit the queerness of our experience for the perceived benefit of others. We enjoy being joyfully together. \nWhat we do\nWithin Rainbow Sangha\, we have created a space that’s welcoming and open to anyone interested in the practice of mindfulness. Some of us have been practising for years and others are just starting out on their path of practice. We are mindful to explain and explore how we practice so that we all can benefit. \nMeeting on Zoom has allowed our sangha to be open to all\, regardless of location\, and we welcome participants from around the globe. Most of us join with our video enabled but some join only with audio\, whatever works best for each person. \nAs well as our weekly Rainbow Sangha\, we have a gender diverse sangha which meets monthly\, and a study group which meets twice a month. \nWhat we say\nIt is a very friendly\, warm\, and supportive community. What amazes me especially is how diverse it is: every part of the LGBTQIA+ spectrum seems to be represented\, and there is also a wide range of ages and life experiences. This makes the process of dharma sharing incredibly rich. \n— Mark S\, gay\, cis-gendered male\, age 65 \nit is no exaggeration to say Plum Village and this Sangha have transformed my life for the better. It is a great source of comfort\, stability and happiness for me. It is very welcoming\, kind and supportive\, like a big warm hug. \n— Jules\, cis-gendered lesbian\, age 48 \nRainbow Sangha is a place where I feel safe and allows me to be me! We practice deep listening and Dharma sharing\, meditation and Thay’s teachings and I feel valued\, accepted and loved! I love my new virtual family!! \n— Julie (she/her) \nThe welcome\, warmth and wisdom of friends from across the spectrum has nourished me to grow in myself and the support and sharing is an inspiration. A simply joyous space. \n— K8 MacKenzie – she/her \nThe sangha is a truly welcoming\, warm\, honest and nurturing space and it’s so beautiful to see friendly diverse faces each week and to share time together. \n— Natalie \nI really like the fact that the sangha is completely rainbow spectrum Inclusive especially as for TNB people for whom diverse sexuality is also relevant. \nGary \n  \nJoining Us\nPlease email us at rainbowsanghauk@gmail.com for more information on Rainbow Sangha and how you can join us.

Children and teens will join adults for part of the day and will then have parallel programs facilitated by young people from Wake Up London. \nOur aim is to create an inter-generational day of mindfulness for people of all ages to come together as a mindful family. Our experience of all age family meditation groups on retreats has been of creating wonderful connections across age groups\, and we believe that children benefit from a loving\, spiritual community just as much as adults do. We welcome people outside of London to join us for this event. \nPlease contact us to let us know if you would like to join our mailing list and find out when our next event is. People of all ages with or without children are welcome to come. You are of course welcome to join our inter-generational community. \nWe really look forward to practicing together and building connections. We’d be grateful if you could take a moment to share about us with sanghas you know\, families and people of all ages who would like to participate. \nA lotus for you\, \nFamily Sangha facilitators \nBelow is a typical schedule for one of our days of mindfulness: \nArrive from 13:45pm \n14:00 Welcome & Mindful movements \n14:30 Parallel spaces \nChildren 4-10\nTeens 11-18\nAdults (guided meditation\, reading\, sharing) \nBabies and toddlers can either stay with the adults or join the children (accompanied by a parent) \n15:30 Tea and snacks (Vegan/Vegetarian…bring snacks to share if you like!) \n16:30 Everyone together for mindful activities (in the garden if weather is favourable) \nWalking meditation\nGratitude circle\nSinging \nClosing to give lots of time to depart by 17:30pm
